Andy D'Andrea, P. Eng., is a seasoned engineer with a robust career in the nuclear sector,complemented by significant leadership experience in professional organizations. With a strong academic foundation from the University of Toronto, where he earned a Bachelor of Applied Science in Industrial Engineering, Andy has advanced his expertise through continuous education,including a Building Science Practice Certificate from the same institution. Born and raised in Canada, Andy has consistently demonstrated a passion for advocating for transparency and socially conscious leadership within the political landscape in Canada.Andy's professional journey began at Ontario Hydro, now known as Ontario Power Generation(OPG), where he served in Design Engineering in nuclear waste management, and implemented and analyzed computer codes critical for the management of used nuclear fuel. He later transferred to OPG's Pickering Nuclear Station as a Senior Technical Engineer in Reactor Safety Support. His responsibilities included providing essential safety advice on containment issues, maintaining risk models, and contributing significantly to operational and safety-related documentation. His commitment to safety was further recognized when he was elected as Unit Director for the Society of United Professionals, representing and advocating for members' interests.Beyond his technical roles, Andy has demonstrated exceptional leadership in union activities. From 2015 to 2018, he served as the Executive Vice-President – Member Services for the Society of United Professionals. In this capacity, he managed significant budgets, directed training programs,advocated for membership engagement including establishing the union wide Young Professionals Network and led constitutional updates, showcasing his ability to navigate complex organizational dynamics.Andy's bilingual proficiency in English and French has been an asset in his career, notably during media interactions following an international nuclear incidents, where he helped maintain public confidence in nuclear safety in Canada. His strategic thinking, combined with his ability to connect with people from various walks of life, makes him a formidable advocate for change, he continues to be a voice for those seeking a more responsive and responsible government, proving that with determination and integrity, one can influence the political fabric of society.Outside of his professional life, Andy is a spouse and father of 4 children. His volunteer activity included coaching boy’s and girl’s Rep soccer with Etobicoke Youth Soccer and house league with Rexdale Soccer League. He also serves on the building maintenance committee at St Benedict’s church in Etobicoke. Andy enjoys home renovations, focusing on energy efficiency, and has a passion for outdoor activities like cycling, snowboarding, camping and hiking, reflecting his commitment to a balanced lifestyle.
