André Fortin has dedicated his life to public service, infrastructure development, and energy governance in Northern Canada. Committed to economic growth, sustainable energy, and community resilience, he brings decades of experience in technology, business, and regulatory oversight.

Born and raised in Quebec, André’s early years in a Catholic orphanage and foster care shaped his resilience and determination. He excelled academically, completing Grade 13 at Polyvalente Donnacona before graduating top of his class in Electrical Engineering Technology from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in 1974.

In 1978, he embarked on a motorcycle journey toward Alaska but found his calling in the Yukon and Northwest Territories, working in communications and energy infrastructure. Settling in Whitehorse in 1984, he joined the Northern Canada Power Commission as a tele-control technician while raising a family off-grid in rural Yukon, gaining firsthand experience in self-reliance and sustainable living.

In 1990, André founded Dynamic Systems, a contracting firm that employed up to 40 people and modernized electrical and mechanical systems across Alaska, Yukon, the Northwest Territories, and beyond. After selling his company in 2007, he focused on commissioning newly constructed facilities, ensuring efficiency and safety.

From 2012 to 2024, he served on the Yukon Utilities Board, overseeing electricity pricing and regulation. His tenure strengthened his expertise in technical, financial, and legal oversight of energy production and distribution. A strong advocate for transparent governance and data-driven decision-making, André rejects policies based on emotion or rhetoric, prioritizing accountability and informed policy.

As he looks to the future, André remains focused on energy security, economic development, and sustainable solutions for the North. Fortin lives north of Whitehorse with his wife. In his free time he enjoys daily walks with his dogs, long motorcycle rides and working on their small farm.
